Right Hand Rings and the Decline of America

Okay....so maybe that's a little dramatic. But I came across something online today that sort of encapsulates what bothers me about the way "we" (too many for it to be a good thing) just don't think.

From a family blog:
"Also, it was my birthday just over a week ago and my wonderful husband bought me a beautiful right hand ring! So I am adding a picture of it. I love it! "

Um....the whole POINT of the Right Hand Ring is to celebrate your independence -- it was the heart and soul of the campaign that launched the trend (the trend of tapping the market of single girls to encourage them to buy diamonds for themselves rather than waiting for a man to get the job done):

"Your left hand lives for love. Your right hand lives for the moment," and "Your left hand declares your commitment. Your right hand is a declaration of independence."

So......where's the independence of a woman who doesn't buy her own right hand freakin' ring?

It just stops being a right hand ring the moment someone gives it to you. So say your hubby gave you a pretty ring or whatever....but take two seconds to think it through, okay?
